BATB score: 5/10 🛶👒
not bad not bad
Best as: a long weekend read for the pure fun of reading - isn’t that what reading is supposed to be for?
BATB lingering thought: these days, reading has become a bragged hobby, an academic show-off, an I read, you Netflix? thus every book you read has evolved to be part of your intellectual identity and so naturally you steer to the boring scholarly accepted books > now what’s the joy in that?
Best for: if you are bored of Netflix, this book is legit (slight thriller, murder mystery)
Best to: know that BATB like Gregg Olsen but more of his non-fiction though
Best quotes: “Trust and stupidity are close friends. Of course, no one really knows that until it’s too late.”
“People gravitate toward danger and drama to show concern, yes. But also to silently count their blessings that nothing like this has happened to them. That being close to the unthinkable takes them off some list that God or fate keeps track of.”
“It’s hard to be genuinely enthusiastic if you can never have what’s in front of you—when it comes so easily to others.”
