BATB score: 2/10 🙈
(I am sorry) this book was a waste of time - watery, no meat, no character love, no climax, nothing really, just redundant words.
Best as: a fictional diary of a fictional grandmother going to Ibiza for the first time > scuba diving, old dusty Airbnb, new neighbors, poker at the casino, protecting the environment, some magic water, fortune telling, and the multiverse
BATB lingering thought: the 80~ chapter breakdown is ADHD weird
Best for: Matt Haig, please stick with non-fiction 🙏
Best to: if you have not read any of Matt Haig’s book, read “Reasons to Stay Alive” first and foremost
Best quote: “the way to die happy is to die complete. To live like you eat a delicious meal. To devour and enjoy every course so that when you have finished you are full, and enjoyed every mouthful, but aren’t too sad there is no more.”
“There are two kinds of ghosts that torment you when a young person dies. The ghost of who they were, and the ghosts of who they could have been.”
“I had spent a lifetime hating my appearance in the present and then appreciating it in retrospect.”
