BATB score: 9.2/10 👩‍🎓👏💯

Bill Gates' and Barack Obama's 2018 recommended read 💯 spot on - I am so sorry that I took so long to get to it (4 years to be exact) #betterlatethannever

This book is almost a 10/10. Just a very very small point. At times, the narration was a bit slow and the ending chapters were less strong compared to the other chapters.

Best to: a brilliant heartfelt memoir - it's about family values and ties, mormonism, beliefs, faith, education, self-discovery, domestic abuse, bi-polar mental illnesses, delusions, and sacrifices

Best for: all of us - family can be the best and the worst influence; how you are raised defines who you are but that doesn't mean that you can't change

Best as: dear Dr. Tara Westover, it's so bold that you wrote this memoir to share with the world so honestly and openly about what happened to you; honestly, I believe your father and brother would literally kill you if they do read this book

Best quote: “but when my own mother didn’t believe me, I stopped believing in myself.”

"All my life those instincts had been instructing me in this single doctrine - that the odds are better if you rely only on yourself."

"It's comforting to think the defect is mine, because that means it is under my power."

"It's strange how you give the people you love so much power over you."

"She was just a cockney in a nice dress. Until she believed in herself. Then it didn't matter what dress she wore."

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"
