BATB score: 2/10 💥
*reader discretion advised* mean girls mode activated - this book is a waste of time 🙄
Best to: okie I acknowledge the good intentions, kudos to Chris Anderson for starting TEDTalk / TEDx and his generosity for knowledge worth sharing; the book is trying to share efforts, tips, techniques and inspire how one can be more generous yet this 200+ pages book would have better been a 18-minutes TEDTalk
Best as: that’s why all philanthropic non-profit organization needs a manipulative, corrupted, out-of-this-world, creative marketer to demand attention, to stir generosity, and drive impact; you need a cult leader to pull through; and that’s why Mr. Beast is 21st century philanthropy
BATB lingering thought: “Make it your life’s goal to be able to commit annually the higher of 10 percent of your income or 2.5 percent of your net worth.” yeah, clear ask but when it’s not a persuasive, nor well-written, nor stimulating book, this premise is meh; and thus, the whole purpose of this book has been defeated
Best for: if you are running a philanthropic non-profit organization, you SHOULD NOT read this book; this book will make you too mellow
Best quotes: “You don’t need to be big to be powerful. You just need to be infectious.”
“Science suggests that over the long term gratitude is a far stronger motivator of generosity than a conscious desire for reputation.”
“If I wanted to be less of a jerk to other people, I needed to start by being less of a jerk to myself.”
