BATB score: 7.7/10 💛
Jeffrey Pfeffer is a one of a kind author who writes about unpopular truths of office politics and leadership blah blah.
Best to: you know how other leadership books discuss about godlike outlier kings and queens of perfect leadership? well, that feels good, uplifting narrative is depressing; this book is taking on a stance on the distrustful, disengaged, dissatisfied, despairing flip side
Best for: actors in leadership positions as acting is essential to effective leadership 👺
Best as: the quirky concepts are there but can be better constructed and sequenced; but all in all still a delight to see someone leap across all political correctness 💯
Best quotes: “No one who is unmemorable is going to be chosen for an important job, because one cannot select what one cannot remember.“
"A leader guided by public necessity is less likely to be cruel and vicious than one guided by religious moralizing. After all, someone who believes he has God on his side is capable of anything."
"Being authentic is pretty much the opposite of what leaders must do. Leaders need to be true to what the situation and what those around them want and need from them."
