BATB score 6.6/10 😓

Started out exceptionally strong on the basics to business and blitzscaling; unfortunately, things went downhill from Part III onwards…

Best to: Reid Hoffman is a legit business guru who writes well in conveying business concepts; from his latest 2021 work ā€œMasters of Scaleā€, this oldie 2018 book proves that Hoffman does write better every year or so

Best for: business students as university course required read - a perfect mixture of principles, business jargons, case studies, legit concepts, and sleepy verbose blah blah

Best as: was going to recommend it as a venture capitalist, start-up entrepreneurial book club monthly read; sadly, though pages 1-120 were good stuff 🤩, pages 121-300 were huge meh bleh šŸ˜’

Best quotes: ā€œyou need new people with new skills as you grow.ā€

ā€œGrow fast or die slow.ā€

ā€œIf your playbook is the same as your competitor’s, you are in trouble, because chances are they are just going to run your playbook with a lot more resources.ā€

ā€œA good product with great distribution will almost always beat a great product with poor distribution.ā€

ā€œDo everything by hand until it’s too painful, then automate it.ā€

ā€œThere are no job descriptions for founders. If the role doesn’t change, there’s something wrong.ā€

ā€œHire Ms. RIGHT NOW, not Ms. Right; you need managers and executives who are ā€˜just right’ for the current phase of growth, after all, you won’t have to worry about the next phase if your team can’t actually get you there.ā€ #bookstagram #reidhoffman
